TOKYO — The president of Japan Airlines, Yoshiharu Ueki, was selected today as the winner of the Executive Management Award during the J-Win Diversity Award 2018 ceremony, sponsored by the Japan Women’s Innovation Network (NPO Corporation J-Win).

This will be the second J-Win Diversity Award the company has received since being presented the Basic Achievement Award in 2017.

The J-Win Diversity Award honors Japanese corporations that are actively promoting diversity and inclusion and will be the eleventh year of the award since its inception in 2008.

The Executive Management Award is presented to top executives who have shown exceptional leadership skills in promoting diversity and inclusion in their respective workplace. (Full Story Here)

Japan Airlines introduces new amenity kits for int’l First and Business Classes

TOKYO — Japan Airlines (JAL) will introduce new amenity kits for customers in international First Class and long-haul Business Class from late-February 2018.

The kits designed by ETRO will be featured in First Class for flights departing and arriving in Japan, as well as in Business Class on flights departing from Japan.

ETRO is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will be the world`s first airline amenity kit produced by the Italian luxury brand company.

The Business Class amenity kit featured on flights to Japan was designed by Tatsumura Textile, a famous manufacturer in Kyoto making key contributions to the development of modern textile in Japan.

The outer surface of the pouch is made with an original fabric woven with a traditional Kikko pattern and ornamented with an elegant Setsugekka textile design with JAL’s tsuru (crane) motif. The color of the fabric will change every three months to depict the four seasons in Japan (Spring – Blue / Summer – Red / Autumn – White / Winter – Black).

This kit embodies JAL’s brand values of “Tradition, Innovation, Spirit of Japan” to evoke feelings for the cultural characteristics of Japan. (Full Story Here)

JAL’s Melbourne to Tokyo Flights to carry The Tree of Senbazuru Campaign

To celebrate the launch of daily direct flights on Japan Airlines (JAL) between Melbourne and Tokyo Narita, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) and Japan Airlines have teamed up to launch an exciting consumer campaign called ‘The Tree of Senbazuru’ to raise awareness of the new service and grant two lucky winners round trip flights for two from Melbourne to Tokyo.

Senbazuru is the ancient art of folding and stringing together a thousand origami paper cranes.

The Tree of Senbazuru is a special cherry blossom tree of a thousand paper cranes with the power to make one lucky person’s travel wish come true.

The campaign will be held in two phases. During phase 1, The Tree of Senbazuru will be placed at Melbourne Central shopping centre on 24-25 February 2018.

Visitors can pluck an origami paper crane from the cherry blossom tree, visit the online campaign site, and enter their unique code to go into the draw to win return economy class flights for two from Melbourne to Tokyo flying with Japan Airlines.

Visitors to Melbourne Central during the two-day event will be able to see and experience Japan Airlines’ award-winning business class seats and meet cabin attendants.

Japan Airlines announces fare fuel surcharge

Japan Airlines (JAL) will maintain current levels of fuel surcharge on all international passenger tickets purchased between April 1 and May 31, 2018.

JAL sets fuel surcharge levels bimonthly based on the 2-month average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel.

The price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel during the two month period of December 2017 and January 2018 averaged US$78.29 per barrel, which accounted for 8,762 yen in the average exchange rate of 111.92 JPY/USD during the same period.

As a result, with reference to the fuel surcharge benchmark list for FY2017 in Japanese yen, this corresponds to Zone C of fuel surcharges.

From April 1 to May 31, 2018, it will range from 500 yen on a Japan – Korea ticket to 10,500 yen on Japan – USA ticket per person per sector flown, on tickets for travel originating in Japan. (Full Story Here)

Japan Airlines (JAL) announced the expansion of its codeshare cooperation with Qatar Airways (QR) on routes to the Middle East (4 routes), Africa (6 routes), and Central Asia (1 route), starting April 1, 2018.

JAL`s codeshare partnership with Qatar Airways (QR) on Japan = Doha routes have been in place since December 2013.

Reservation and ticket sales for the new codeshare flights will start from March 14, 2018.

JAL will continue to enhance its network in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia to provide business and leisure customers with more convenience and an enjoyable experience on every journey. (Full Story Here)

JAL receives on-time performance award

Japan Airlines (JAL) has been named the best on-time Asia-Pacific Major Airline for six consecutive years and eighth in total for its domestic and international flights operated in calendar year 2017 by FlightStats Inc., a US flight status tracking company that analyzes on-time arrival rates for global airlines.

JAL also took second place overall in the Major International Airlines category.

Under this category, flights operated by Japan Airlines achieved an on-time arrival rate of 85.60% for its domestic and international flights and the JAL Group achieved an on-time arrival rate of 86.09% in the Network category.

As a result, JAL was named the best on-time Asia-Pacific Major Airline in both Mainline and Network categories by FlightStats.

Japan Airlines, Boom to introduce supersonic air travel

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Boom Supersonic are pleased to announce a strategic partnership to bring commercial supersonic travel to passengers.

While new and advanced technologies are changing our lives significantly, flight times for air travel have stayed relatively constant.

Boom is developing a new-generation supersonic aircraft, which flies at Mach 2.2 and will cut flight times in half.

Through this agreement, JAL will provide its knowledge and experience as an airline to support Boom in developing the aircraft.

As part of the agreement, JAL has made a strategic investment of $10 million in Boom and is collaborating with the company to refine the aircraft design and help define the passenger experience for supersonic travel.

JAL also has the option to purchase up to 20 Boom aircraft through a pre-order arrangement.

The two companies will cooperate closely to realize faster and more convenient air travel.
